Accessories, every girls dream. But what about men? Well if you want to accessorize properly and still look professional here are a few things to keep in mind. A girl's number one accessory is her bag, and then her second are her earrings. Now most girls will argue that the number one accessory is her shoes but shoes are a necessity not an accessory DO NOT MIX THIS UP. Same goes for men shoes are a necessity and your shoes will determine the rest of your accessories.
If you have followed the rest of my blogs you will have learned about the colors of your suits whats appropriate and what makes you look like you bath in $$. Today shoes make a huge difference. Now a days businessmen do something that use to be a huge NO NO back before th 90s, and that is wearing brown shoes with blue or gray suits. Back in the day black shoes made your suit stand out more for black blended into the gray environment. Today brown shoes make YOU stand out from the enviroment by allowing peoples eyes to follow your every move from feet up. Now the accessory allows peoples eyes to make the journey.
My number one rule is ALWAYS MATCH YOUR SHOE'S COLOR WITH YOUR BELT. the reason for this would be that as you allow your eyes to lock on a color your eyes automatically search for the next object of the same color. If you are wearing a blue or gray suit then the brown is going to stand out on your waist line. Very important.
"but gabe, if i am wearing a suit jacket how will one see my belt." Very simple there is a rule to suit jackets that was created for this very simple method. its a rule with buttoning your suit.
If you are wearing a 3 button suit jacket the rule is sometimes>always>never
this means that sometimes you button the top button, you always button the middle button and you NEVER button the bottom so that the BELT is visible.
now if you are wearing a 2 button blazer the rule stays the same in a way. the rule is Sometimes>Never. This of course means that you sometimes only have the top button closed or other times just have the blazer open.
now if you have a 4 button suit jacket the rule is very simple. Because a four button suit is made so that YOU STAND OUT AND LOOK CLEAN CUT you follow this rule. Always>Always>Always>Sometimes.
Now these rules were all made so that the belt is visible.
Your next 3 very important accessories are your watch, your cuff links (if you are wearing a french cut shirt...ahem let me rephrase that WHEN you wear a french cut shirt...wear a french cut shirt!) and lastly your pen.
there are 2 styles of watches you would have to get to make a suit work good. One with a leather band or the type that is all metallic with links.
If you are wearing a leather banded watch you want the leather to match the color of your belt and shoes . Please note when i say match i of course mean the basic color not a perfect match. if your shoes are brown get brown accessories but diffrent shades of brown make it more interesting.
Okay if your belts metal is Gold and your belts leather is brown get a brown strap on your gold watch. let it match. now your pen that sits in your shirt pocket should match the metal of your belt and watch. silver belt silver watch means a silver pen. if its a gold watch and gold belt then guess what you will have a gold pen. your cuff links should follow the same rule as your pen.
these little accessories make a big difference. Remember little details wow people more then extravagant details.
